HYPOCRISY! -
in Baseball, in America

The sexual crisis in this country is just that, a crisis steeped in hypocrisy, guilt and ignorance. Kris Benson was just traded from the NY Mets because they do not like his wife. They liked HIM well enough last year to offer him a multi-year expensive contract but cooler (?) head prevailed and he was shipped off to Baltimore for a couple pitchers. Benson was, at one point, a high draft choice but has under achieved for a career that was thought to have great potential at one point. But his record is not that much different than that of AJ Burnett who was the most sought after free agent pitcher this winter with an equally mediocre .500 record. |
So why trade Benson? His wife is beautiful, outspoken and wears sexy clothes. One would think that that liberals in NY City could put up with that, but guess again. She criticized the possibility of Carlos Delgado not standing for the playing of “God Bless America”, his choice these past few years and one that his other teams have lived with. He has said he will show respect and stand for its playing in NY, where this theme is most dear to the hearts of the natives there in the aftermath of the twin towers disaster. |

But how have we reached this point in our “liberalism”, in our adherence to freedom of speech, in the values on which this country was founded, that we cannot accept the opinion of one man (or woman)? Actually Delgado hits homeruns and performs and he is a man. While Anna Benson is a harlot, former stripper, and a woman. This is the ONLYI difference. Our double standards are intact, women may be vilified for being WOMEN and that is socially acceptable, while a man of Delgado’s stature is one who may be questioned but ultimately accepted. |
So much for the land of the free and the home of the brave. If there was really anyone who was courageous and brave out there in our media, world, these issues would have been explored already. Meanwhile Anna Benson and her husband, Kris, are off to Baltimore, chased out of the one of the last bastions of true liberalism in America. That is how bad it is here, that New York City is beginning to embrace the reactionary themes prevalent in the hearthland of middle America. I fear for the future of this country. |
