Afyon Parmalki Kilim, western Anatolia, 19th Century (circa 1860?), 4’1” x 8’3”

A visually fascinating example of textile art from Anatolia, from the western region of Afyon on the Aegean Sea.  These kilims have been a favorite of collectors in the past, probably due to the wonderful graphic appeal as the design literally vibrates.

Probably derived from an earlier aesthetic in which the wings or birds or eagles were represented, the graphics have proven to be an enduring favorite over time.

The condition is good, there are a few small re-weaves/repair in the dark brown wool and a little bit in the yellow (see detail images).  The colors are all derived from natural dyes.
