Anatolian Kilim Fragment, Karapinar Region of Central Anatolia, 19th Century, 3’ 9” x 5’ 6”
|
Originally sold in the 1970s by Michael Franses, this lovely kilim exhibits the clarity of colors that one hopes to find in these flat weaves from central Anatolia. Comparable examples are found in the literature, some earlier and some later… some with less than comparable color, very few with better colors. The condition is good, the fragment is bound on all four sides with a heavy cotton cloth, stabilizing it as well as providing a medium by which it may be hung on a wall where it presents a startlingly bold image.
