Baluch Rug, NE Persia, late 19th century, 3’ 6” x 6’

An incredibly interesting design, one much more familiar within the context of Turkmen weaving. The large ‘gurbaghe’ gols seen in Turkmen weavings as secondary devices dominate the field pattern of the rug from NE Persia.  The bold rendering of this design would be an incredible source of interest among collectors of Turkmen material if were seen on a rug of that type.

The condition is pretty good, there is light overall wear to the pile, there are no holes or repairs.  All the colors are derived from natural dyes.
