Ersari (or Kizil Ayak) Trapping, Central Asia, late 19th century, 5’ 1” x 1’ 3”
Longer trappings of this sort seem to have been made by the Ersari Turkmen groups, almost exclusively. While long rectangular trappings are found among other groups, they do not rival those of the Ersari groups in terms of length. Those of the Kizil Ayak and the “Chobosh” include designs that seem to bear an affinity with the ertman gol of the Chodor. That affinity is best illustrated in the ‘half’ gols depicting birds, seemingly tethered, to a central tree device capped with a rams horn motif. The condition is perfect, with lustrous, lush wool, no holes or repairs nor any re-weaves. The colors are all derived from natural dyes. Price - $1150 |
