Uzbek Embroidery, Central Asia, 19th Century, 12" x 16"
(the embroidery iteself, exluding the ground cloth)

An extremely colorful and elegant example of Uzbek needlework from Central Asia.  Rarely do we see such examples come to the market these days, something so colorful in addition to so well drawn.  The style is a classic feature of embroidery from the Uzbek people of Central Asia, a style developed over time which ultimately influenced many other artisans in Asia, including the Mogols of India.

This style, though, is a bit different, one associated with one of the oasis towns of the region, possibly Tashkent or Pskent.  The condition is ok, there are some water stains on the ground cloth but the embroidery itself is in virtually perfect condition aside from one small slit (see detail image) which is virtually unnoticeable to the eye when the textile is layed flat.

Price - $650
