Uzbek Sofreh, Central Asia, circa 1900 (or before?), 3' 3" x 4' 8"

A lovely flat weave with amazing colors (ALL derived from natural dyes of good quality), a textile used as a 'table cloth' upon which platters of food would be served.  Traditional life in Central Asia is lived on the floors of their homes and they sit on the floors to eat, gathering around such cloths and platters of rice, meat and vegetables.

The communal manner in which they eat fosters a real sense of community among the people, something which we share in the West when we eat our evening meals at the table, but without the communal feeling of eating with one's hands out of one platter of food.

The weave is extremely fine and the handle is like a piece of cloth in the hand.  The condition is perfect with no holes or any repairs.

Price - $275
