Caught!

Women do so much of the heavy work in India, especially on building sites, carrying bricks or,
in this case, sacks of dirt.  From the lower class or caste, as the case may be, women of this social standing in India are regarded as merely workers at best, or chattel at worst.  I had seen this group of women the previous day and thought they would be a good subject for photography andtook numerous shots.  They were shy, and embarrassed by the attention.

The next morning, again I saw them but this timecarrying these sacks of dirt and they had to walk close to where I was standing and watching.  So I decided to shoot again in the early morning light.  This one was obviously a bit embarrassed but clearly flattered and enjoying the attention I lavished upon her the day before as well as at this moment.   Her somewhat shy smile says it all.
