Parvati in the Park

Mahaballipuram has been rich source of photographic opportunity.  But recently, with the ascension of the Indian middle class and a budding domestic tourist market, these cultural heritage sites throughout India are often overrun, allowing for fewer unspoiled images
to be seen or captured.  This young woman was posing for her family.  Obviously I was far away from her to one side, and upon seeing this image, I knew it had to be taken.  Later, I told people that I had seen Parvati (Shiva’s consort) in the park today and showed them the image.  They were surprised, and nodded in agreement with my assessment of what I had seen
