ECLECTIC IMAGES -

Remnants

Shivaratri is a holiday celebrating Lord Shiva and one of the holiest days in the Hindu calendar.  Offerings are given, here in the form of burning oil in small clay vessels.  The remnants of the holiday remain from the previous night, with one oil lamp still burning in honor of Shiva.

Taken in Chidamburam (Tamil Nadu) in a temple devoted to the image of a dancing Shiva.
Photos were prohibited within the temple, but I could not resist this timeless image that
as been repeated here and throughout India for many centuries.

9" x 22" (on blackgatorboard w/mount for hanging)-
