Running Water

Carrying water is common in India as plumbing is not available everywhere.  Taken in the early morning in Mahaballipuram, it is somehow appropriate to see this woman walking past a
huge carving celebrating the event when Shiva ordered water from the Ganges to descend and
nourish the earth.

A swarming crowd of gods and goddesses as well as mythical beings with domestic and wild animals bear witness to this auspicious event, recorded by Pallava period
artisans in the 7th – 8th century.
