Walled In

Part of the temple complex in Tanjore constructed in the early 11th century, the wall is amazing for the absence of symmetry in addition to any mordant.  These huge rocks were cut and pieced together, forming the walls of the inner temple chamber, inside of which one can only imagine what might be there.

Aside from holy relics and priceless statues of the period, it is said some of the early kings collected gold and silver in great quantities to be kept within the hallowed walls of the temples throughout India and whatever was placed there
in the past, remains to this day, undisturbed.
