Tibetan Stirrup, Iron, 15th-17th Century, 5.5" x 5"

I have never seen a stirrup like this before. Purchased in Tibet in 1986, I have waited and waited for the other piece to complete the pair but it has yet to suface in the marketplace. As strange as that may sound, it is common that the matching piece of a pair of objects, or even the second half of a rug, will appear in the market at a later date. A marvelous example of metal casting, the style of the drawing suggests a possible 15th century date. The amazing detail, the fluid drawing of the bodies of the dragons as they appear on the side of the stirrup, and the masterful casting are all indicative of an early date.
