Yomud Turkmen Applique Asmalyk, Central Asia, 19th century, 3' 4" x 2' 6"

Asmalyks are an integral component of the dowry. An unbelievably colorful and eye dazzling textile of apparent age and undoubted beauty. Such pieces are very rare and are very much cherished, both out there in Turkmenistan as well as by the few knowledgable collectors in the West for such highly evolved exxamples of textile art. The condition is good, there is one hole that has been repaired, backed with a similarly colored piece of woolen felt material.
