Uzbek Embroidered Hair 'Cover', Central Asia, 19th century, 4" x 2' 2"
| An extremely nice and complete example of Uzbek embroidery. Such pieces were made to be hung from a hat or some other type of headwear, hanging over the back of a woman's head, ostensibly to obscure her hair and to be very ornamental. The condition is perfect, the embroidery technique is very tight and all the colors are derived from natural dyes. |
