Tadjik Ikat Coat, Central Asia, 19th century

Less recognized than their Uzbek counterparts, the Tadjiks of Central Asia, too, were involved with the production of silk ikat, making coats such as this one. The blue silk is a distinguishing characteristic of this type, including apparently blue cotton wefting. The slightly ridged surface fo the coat suggests either a cotton wefting or a coarser silk thread. The colors are brilliant, the condition is good (no holes, or rips/tears).
