Tadjik Ikat Coat, Central Asia, 19th century
|
Less recognized than their Uzbek counterparts, the Tadjiks of Central Asia, too, were involved with the production of silk ikat, making coats such as this one. The blue silk is a distinguishing characteristic of this type, including apparently blue cotton wefting. The slightly ridged surface fo the coat suggests either a cotton wefting or a coarser silk thread. The colors are brilliant, the condition is good (no holes, or rips/tears). |
