Afshar Bags, S. Persia, late 19th century , 2' 3" x 1' 3"

Obviously these bags are not "saddle bag" or "khorjin" as they are much smaller than what a saddle bag would be and must have served a different purpose. There are smaller bags woven by some of these Persian tribal groups that have been described as "tobacco" pouches or bags, and it is possible that is what these are, a very rare format given the similarity to saddle bags.

The weave is relatively fine, the colors all derived from natural dyes. The condition is generally good, there are a couple small spots of moth damage (see detail images) and on spot of re-piling in the dark blue ground color, otherwise, in original condition.
