Afshar Bag Face, S. Persia, late 19th century , 2' 6" x 1' 5"
|
A classic design, well executed and delightfully drawn as if the pattern was lifted from something much larger and dropped into the confines of a smaller bag face. The random quality of which designs are running off the edge of the field is both quirky and appealing, contributing to the tribal “feel” of the weaving.
The condition is good, with virtually full pile, and no repairs or re-weaves. The flatwoven closures at the top end are intact. The colors are beautifully saturated, and all derived from natural dyes. |
