Baluch Balisht, SE Persia, late 19th century, 1' 7" x 2' 6"
| A complete and extremely graphic Baluch weaving from SE Persia. The camel ground serves as a perfect contrast for the boldly rendered latch hook medallions. The integrity of design is accentuated by the triangular shapes that protrude into the field, smaller colored triangles as well as the larger ones composed of alternating lines of color. The art we see here is extraordinary, subtle but wonderful once one actually tunes into what is going on here.
The condition is excellent, with full pile, no holes or repairs and the flatwoven back is intact (see final detail image). The colors are derived from natural dyes. |
