Baluch Salt Bag, SE Persia, 19th c., 1 1" x 1" 9"
| An old 'salt bag', which may actually be a spoon bag. The wider neck on this weaving has been associated, in the past, with spoon bags among the Baluch rather than salt bags. But whatever the purpose, the aubergine dye seen as the ground color, and relatively supple handle suggests an older, rather than younger, weaving.
The condition is good, no holes or repairs, and the colors are all derived from natural dyes. |
