Kirghiz Embroidery, Central Asia, circa 1900, 1’10” x 2’3”
|
A colorful and eye dazzling example of non Turkmen Central Asian embroidery. These embroideries were used decoratively in the tents and homes of these people. Often thought of as ‘talismans’, they may very well be representations of the universe, as the medallions on rugs from other weaving groups may be (see “Ancient Imprints”). |
