Tadjik Embroidery, Central Asia, late 19th Century, 1’5” x 1’10

An elegant and finely stitched embroidery from Central Asia.

The theme of flowering plants is common to both the Tadjik and Uzbek women who embroider these textiles, but this is a type that is identified as Tadjik.  The small size with a ‘mihrab’ and the style/technique are distinctly Tadjik.

The condition is good, with no holes or other damage.  All the colors are derived from natural dyes (except for possibly the purple silk ground cloth).
