Uzbek Embroidery, 19th century , 9" x 2"
| A colorful and graphic embroidery, the cuff to a coat. The design is fantastic, one that is seldom encountered, and the stitch is lovely, very tight and immaculately worked. The colors are all derived from natural dyes, and there is even a bit of the bright red wool embroidery (most of this piece is done in silk) which is an indication of greater age than most examples, and is associated with pieces no later than 1875, and usually much earlier. |
