Anatolian Kilim Fragment, Aydin (W. Anatolia), mid 19th century, 2' 8" x 9' 3"
| This kilim fragment is from the western Anatolian region of Aydin on the Aegean Sea near Izmir. The totemic design is somewhat unusual with the bird images flanking the central ornaments in places. The colors are fabulous, with a beautiful saturated aubergine, blue and reds. The white ground with scattered elements flanking the cetnral designs is charactertistic of the Aydin aesthetic. The fragment is mounted on a heavy linen cloth, ready to stretched over a wooden frame or merely hung on the wall as it is pictured here. |
