Turkmen Chuval, Yomud Group, Central Asia, 19th century, 3' 6" x 2' 6"
| Usually I am not a big fan of the 4 x 4 gol composition seen in some Turkmen chuvals. But this one, aside from having a really nice lighter blue color, has a very curious secondary gol of real interest and nicely drawn primary gols as well. The border too is of some interest, with the small zig zag lines separating the ashiks in the borders on either side, seem to be rather bird like in their rendering.
The condition is good, overall even wear, no holes or repair, missing original selvedges. The colors are all derived from natural dyes. |
