Baluch Bag Face, Afghanistan, 19th century, 1' 10" x 2' 3"
| A rare and unusually wonderful example of Baluch weaving from western Afghanistan. The vibrant palette, unusual design and the relatively good condition in which it has survived separates this example from others from the same region. The indigo blues are especially wonderful, as well as the clear aubergine. It si nice to see the closures of the bag still intact as often they are missing. The condtiion is ok, the selvedge in the lower left corner is tattered, but there is plenty of lustrous wonderful pile extant in this rare and atypically beautiful example. |
