Kizil Ayak Long Rug, Central Asia (Middle Amu Darya Region), 19th century, 4' 10" x 9' 7"
| Rugs of this design type are usually thought to be associated with Ersari or possibly Uzbek attributions. Seldom, if ever, do we see one that is clearly something else, albeit closely related but still clearly different. The clues to placing this definite attribution on this rug are the beautifully silky, finely spun ivory warps in addition to the border, a design that one does not find in Ersari or Uzbek weaving. The pile is silky as well, a fine quality wool has been used. The colors are all derived from natural dyes, and the condtion is good, with no repairs, original ends and selvedges. |
