Shahsavan Jajim (Flat Weave), NW Persia or SW Caucasus Region, 19th century, 6' 10" x 4' 10"

A lovely jajim from looms of the Shahsavan weavers of NW Persia. The colors (all derived from natural dyes) are extremely saturated and quite lovely including a great green, clear madder red and aubergine/brown. The color combinations rival those of the famed Aymara weavings of Bolivia and available at a fraction of the cost of those South American weavings. This jajim is in perfect condition, a lovely example of tribal weaving and clearly an 'art' piece that transcends the genre or the area from which it actually comes.
