Uzbek Rug, Central Asia, 19th century, 3 8" x 5'
| A stellar example of a known type. Not that there are many examples of this design type, with two large gols dominating the field and a relatively simple border system. The graphics are good here, a very visually active picture with movement created through the use of space and color. The border is extremely unusual, the only example of this design type that I have seen with this border system.
The condition is ok, there are some minor repairs (old re-weaves) in this rug (see detail images), none of which really detract from the overall picture. The colors are all derived from natural dyes. |
