Tekke Turkmen Embroidered Chyrpy Fragments, Central Asia, 19th century

Two colorful and finely stitched fragments of a Tekke Turkmen 'chyrpy'. These two embroideries may not be from the same chyrpy but certainly of the same period and serving the same function. These would have hung down the back of the 'chyrpy' as 'false sleeves' on this mantle that would have been worn over the head of a Turkmen woman and draped down her back.

The condition is good, hardly a stitch out of place. The silk has been colored with all natural dyes, and the yellow ground cloth is a hand loomed silk cloth.
