Veramin Trapping, circa 1870, 3' 11" x 1' 4""

An unusual weaving from the Veramin region of north central Persia.  The ‘memlinc’ gol design is seldom seen in these weavings from the Veramin region.  The shape of this weaving suggests it is a ‘trapping’, possibly used to adorn the side of a camel during a wedding procession.  It is doubtful it ever had a back on it, dismissing the notion that it was a ‘torba’.

The condition is pretty good, the upper corners are slightly damaged (indicating it was suspended at some point by these corners), but the pile is virtually full, the sides are intact and the pile is virtually full.  The colors are all derived from natural dyes.
