Baluch Rug, NE Persia, 3' 10" x 6' 2"

The mina khani design is a popular one among collectors of Baluch rugs, usually conforming to a standard format.  The field design seen here is not standard, as there is a large scale lattice dividing the field in which various ornaments are arranged.  There appears to be a strict symmetry seen in these ornaments, but a closer examination reveals variations that impart a very loose and wonderful ‘look’ to this weaving.

The condition is what it is, evident in the photos, though there are no repairs, nor any stains.  The colors are all derived from natural dyes.
