Ersari Chuval, Central Asia, circa 1875, 5' 1" x 3' 2"
|
A rather plush Ersari weaving with some unusual design characteristics. The border is obviously VERY different, consisting of a compartmented border flanked by a spaciously rendered one with large flower heads. The field pattern is well drawn, a classic Ersari drawing with lovely chemche gols and spacious version of a the 16 gol format, which is often very crowded and generally unattractive, as seen in many Yomud chuvals of that type.
The colors are outstanding with a deep red color, nice teal blue/green and a clear lemon yellow. The condition is good, but for one repair/patch seen in the field (see detail image), otherwise original selvedges intact. Something is probably missing from the bottom edge of the elem. |
