Yomud Main Carpet, Central Asia (Khiva Region?), 19th century, 5' 5" x 11' 3"

Yomud main carpets are undervalued in the market, as are most Turkmen main carpets. Considering the size of the weaving, the classic patterns seen, and the quatliy of the weave and wool, these rugs rarely achieve their intinsic value, either in auction or elsewhere. This classic 'dyrnak' gol carpet is just such a piece with lovely, silky wool, iridescent colors and eye dazzling use of space.

The condition is good, minor signs of wear (see the detail images) but not worn by any means. All the colors are derived from natural dyes. Price - $4,000
