Yomud Turkmen Chuval, Central Asia, 19th century, 3' 6" x 2' 5"
| There is seemingly an endless supply of chuvals attributed to the Yomud. Therefore one must be rather circumspect when appraising the aesthetic value of these weavings. While the field design and borders on thsi piece appear to be familiar, the elem with the nicely drawn trees is quite extraordinary. The planned manner in which the light colored serrated leaves are arranged contribute to a very nice composition, one mirrored in the field with the boldly drawn medallions and secondary devices.
The condition is good, with no holes (one small ding on the left upper edge), virtually full pile throughout. and beautiful dyes, including an attractive unfaded lemon yellow and beautiful indigo blues. |
