Verneh Bag, Caucasus Mtns., 19th century, 2' 5" x 2' 5"

An unusual and eye dazzling weaving from the Caucasus, a Verneh style weaving with incredible visual appeal. The layering of patterns is quite intriguing and it is unusual to find a bag with made in this technique. More often one finds covers rather than utilitarian bags (indicating a 'tribal provenance, rather than an urban origin).

The condition is excellent, no repair or re-weaves, slight staining on the back. The colors are all derived from natural dyes.
